Dior x Birkenstock: An Unexpected Reimagining
Gardening and industrialization can be the perfect mix.
Through the blunder of F/W22’s Paris menswear showcases, Kim Jones adds another name to his collaborative history for the maison with Birkenstocks.
As a tribute to Monsieur Dior’s love of gardening, Dior has labeled the collaboration “the result of a creative dialogue” where “these objects of desire combine the Dior oblique motif with the German brand’s bone pattern.”The collab features a reimagining of Birkenstock’s Tokio mule and Milano sandal, revamping the leather and buckle to a dressed felt grey and suede in Dior’s omnipresent Dior Grey. Revamped by Dior’s current lead of men’s footwear Thibo Denis, the updated models are streamlined with rubber soles and industrial buckles.
The collaborative effort between the two brands is a materialization of Dior’s tribute to nature, with the inspiration externalized on the Tokio through flowers embroidered by Dior’s ateliers. Set to release this year, Dior has further grounded the idea of the comfy shoe as a necessity within luxury – they may be here to stay.
