Dodo Bar Or Draws On 1960s and 70s Fashionable Eccentricity For FW 21 Ready To Wear

A vision of vivacious vintage.

The style of the 1960s and 70s has long been defined by an eclectic, carefree attitude and avant-garde play on color and form. The fashion era’s pioneering legacy and eyecatching motifs are often imitated and, speaking from personal experience, desired by younger generations who scour the internet for legit vintage deadstock. Well, my friends, scour no more.

Dodo Bar Or’s FW 21 Ready to Wear is a collection of reimagined retro sartorial staples with an authentically vintage air for the modern wardrobe. The line embraces decade-defining psychedelic patterns and whimsical silhouettes with elevated flair. The star contender this collection is neoprene, taking on dozens of playful forms including jackets, tops, bottoms, dresses and all-in-ones.

Keeping in tune with the quirky essence of 60s and 70s fashion, color blocking takes center stage as showcased through the line’s pantsuits, midi skirts, and bodysuits aplenty. Dodo Bar Or is all about highlighting the beauty of the female figure. Your curves become just as much an essential part of the pieces through body-celebrating patterns of graphic shapes.

It’s a line designed for mixing and matching. The season’s knitwear falls in perfect step with luxurious leather, paired to perfection when combining one of the line’s oversized collar-sporting polo-style bodysuits alongside a woven leather skirt. Intreccio leather, a technique involving the interlacing of fine strips, adds texture, shape and a little more oomph to leather wardrobe basics like trousers and trenches.

The color palette for this collection is a chromatic combo of fanciful sherbet hues, bubblegum pink and super-saturated primary colors that lends to an eyepopping presentation. When designing this collection, Bar Or looked to 1960s’ trailblazing Israeli artist Yaacov Agam who is best known for his contributions to optical art through the use of color and shape. Bar Or employs zigzagged square mosaics and multicolored triangle tessellations in spirited homage. Agam’s colorful creations act as a backdrop in collection images as models pose in funky fashion in front of a museum exhibition.

This adds yet another impressive collection to the burgeoning fashion label. Launched in 2014 by actress-turned-fashion-designer, Dorit “Dodo” Bar Or, her designs have been sported on red carpets by Selena Gomez, Toni Garrn and Bar Rafaeli and garnered millions of social media hits through the likes of Leandra Medine and Chiara Ferragni. It is available from Saks Fifth Avenue, Harrods and Net-A-Porter among others, or at dodobaror.com.
