In the familial landscapes of fashion houses, none compare to the legacy that is Versace. With the continued high-profile spotlight on her brother’s murder, Donatella continues to channel the elegance and anti-demure vision of the Versace girl, a coveted staple that needeth no introduction. This Milan Fashion Week, Donatella revamps saturated plaids and head wraps for a modern, luxury-filled crowd of the next it girls.

The start of the FW18 collection is a hip take on a successful preppy ensemble, very much embodying OG popular girls Cher and Dionne. A red, yellow, and blue plaid palette immediately infuses the classic print with bold flair, giving the mini skirt and matching blazer even more edge. This continues to find itself in smaller increments throughout the rest of the collection, like the shoulders of a western button-up, slim fitting trousers, and sweaters.

Whether fringed or silk, the Versace cocktail dress lives up to its standout reputation on this runway, providing enough sex appeal and flamboyance to be the life of the party. Donatella reaches a panache peak when a trio of hooded models, donning all black above-the-knee ensembles, strut down the stage, cementing the inheritance of sisterhood that comes with being a Versace girl.

The magic of all things Versace is the potent possessive power built into each garment; an infectious tradition forever fueled by Gianni and his engraved vision of expressive and empowering clothing for women. This fall’s Versace girl has enough edge that upon entering a room, all eyes will definitely be on them.
