Don’t Use Hashtag BlackLivesMatter in Your #BlackoutTuesday post
Tldr; the BLACKLIVESMATTER hashtag provides vital information to protestors, don’t use it in a #BlackoutTuesday post.
The #BlackoutTuesday movement is meant to be a disruption, a statement of no more, an actively anti-racist demonstration. Most have already seen the overwhelming amount of posts, each sharing a black screen.
The movement is well intentioned (for the most part), yet potentially drowns out important information for protesters. Many use the hashtag BLACKLIVESMATTER to hear from those protesting, respond to the need for urgent action, and/or to ensure any potentially dangerous encounters are avoided.
The posts disrupt the flow of information with blank screens. If you have already posted, please delete and repost.

And, more importantly, remember solidarity does not start (or end) with an Instagram post. For non-Black readers, we must move beyond optical allyship, and remember silence is only productive when it makes space for other voices.
