Dries Van Noten Announces Performance Series at Little House In Los Angeles

Artist Kaylee Gibson leads you through the relationship between our bodies and nature

Belgian fashion designer Dries Van Noten is delighted to open the doors of the Little House in Los Angeles and to invite you to a performance series led by multidisciplinary artist Kaylee Gibson, through the end of April. After opening its first American store in Los Angeles only in 2020, the brand has revolutionized the retail experience as we know it. Along with the store, in fact, customers can explore the Big and Little Houses, both of which are designated to promote art. The Big House features Dries Van Noten’s current collection and garments from his archive for purchase, whereas the Little House only features works of other artists who have inspired and impressed the Belgian designer.

The project-based performance series is called The Movement Sessions and it was founded in Mexico City in 2015 by Gibson. It aims at bringing artists – dancers, musicians, performers, and more – together to “explore ideas through performance and presence.” The California native, who grew up dancing ballet, started embracing dance and movement more holistically after she had to stop dancing due to an injury. Yet, she continued pursuing her passion, covering multiple roles across the arts. The first chapter of The Movement Sessions took place on Saturday, April 8th, and featured dancer Whitney Schmanski painting the floor of the Little House in an exploration of the mind, body, and environment while being accompanied by cellist Sophia Bacelar. But don’t worry, there are still plenty of opportunities for you to engage with this wonderful exhibition.

Here’s what to expect from now on. On Saturday, April 15th, opera singer Peabody Southwell will join dancer (and founder) Kaylee Gibson for a performance that was described by The Wall Street Journal as “electrifying.” The duo will question the human veneration for Nature, as it expresses within ourselves and without. It will be followed by an interactive performance by Poet Mandy Kahn, whose work has been included in the Best American Poetry anthology series. Finally, a special dance by Nayomi Van Brunt of L.A. Dance Project will close out The Movement Sessions, with a first show on Wednesday, April 19th, and a second one on Saturday, April 22nd. This immersive experience will feature a sound installation by Victoria Mordoch, and sculptural florals installed by artist Sophia Moreno Bunge. The Little House will remain open for visitors to interact with the installation between April 19th-22nd.
