Dries Van Noten Fall 2023 RTW: Remembering The Love For Your Wardrobe

The designer focuses on fundamentals, longevity, and our relationship with clothing this season.

With many brands creating excitement and presenting performance and drama down the runway, there is also the other end of the spectrum with designers emphasizing the importance of making really good clothes and the necessary fundamentals people seek for their wardrobe. It’s about finding that piece with the perfect fabric and details and knowing the moment you see it you will keep it for as long as you can.

The collection consists of sixty looks starting with solid core pieces with a black pinstripe jacket and a black pinstripe midi skirt with a slit and a white waterfall trim for a touch of delicacy. There are a handful of looks that include pinstripe and suiting highlighting masculine elements–a recurring trend this season, as office wear has been a hit but mainly for the streets.

The clothes speak of intimacy with a peek of french lace at the hem beneath oversized blazer jackets or fragile-looking eggshell organza peering below a boxy black double-breasted jacket. It’s the layering and the small, intricate details that breathe life into the ensembles. For instance, coats and jackets are strategically buttoned, tied, or held together by a model’s hand to showcase revealed or hidden components along with one’s relationship with garments. DIY also plays a major role, within the collection, with gold stitching either on the shoulders or as a band around the waist on bland wool coats, or the use of metallic gold paint to provide artistic flair and a twinge of magic to a winter wardrobe.
