Today, Dua Lipa dropped “Physical”, a dance-inducing pop anthem and the third single from her forthcoming LP Future Nostalgia. Following the release of “Don’t Start Now” and the explosive title track, Lipa’s latest melody is one of superpower strength. Blending lyrics from Olivia Newton-John’s “Physical,” the powerhouse singer puts a pop twists on legendary sounds and brings her melodic message to life in an accompanying music video.

In the visual’s opening scene, Lipa stands face-to-face with a love interest and rips off his jacket while fearlessly staring into his eyes. After symbolically blowing a leaf out of her hands, the daredevil pop star aggressively reaches into her lover’s chest as the action turns to animation before she literally pulls out a cartoon heart. In a smooth transition, the lovestruck singer then finds herself dressed in all red and dancing across her complicated lover in a sea of performers. Still holding a small heart in her hand, the heart-wrenching vocalist enters a kaleidoscope of entirely monochromatic scenes where she glides through choreography while belting the lyrics, “Let’s get physical.” Changing from purple to blue and then yellow, the routine becomes odder as she engages with different emotions in each cut. Lipa dramatically lunges into the center of a giant hole, while man-made clouds and a cartoon version of the singer make appearances in the following scenes. In the closing frame, dancers from each color group merge and dance in pairs around Lipa, whose now wearing all black, illustrating the unification of complicated emotions and not-so-perfect love stories.
