Grandson of Salvatore Ferragamo releases a collaborative cover of Coldplay’s single “Fix You” in light of COVID relief fund. Edo Ferragamo, the Italian-born singer and New York City dweller partnered up with musical acts from the likes of Jordin Sparks, Marc E. Bassy, American Authors, Joe Bastianich, Marc E Bassy, Brothers Page, Alex Aiono,  Gazzo, Christian de Sica, Saturnino Celani, Gianluca Pellerito, Fabrizio Sotti, Sad Alex, Victoria Kuhne, Nikko ielasi, Y.loh and Letizia Gambi for the heartfelt single. A lyrical montage of artists bands together for the music video by Zoom, safely from their homes, while viewers are invited to donate proceeds to the Italian Red Cross Association.

VMAN Can you tell us why you choose to cover “Fix You” by Coldplay?

EF Other than being one of my all times favorite songs, the lyrics speak for themselves: conveying a unique message of healing & hope. Moreover, it’s an immediately recognizable tune that an international audience can relate to, and a perfect song to collaborate on with others. We really couldn’t find a more fitting song for this global fundraising campaign.

VMAN Why and how did you choose these artists specifically to be a part of this collaborative cover?

EF I admire each and every one of the artists I invited to collaborate on this project. They’re some of the most talented musicians I know and their work inspires me every day. They’re an eclectic mix of Italian & international artists who have all been deeply affected by this crisis & have generously agreed to leverage their following to make a positive impact in the world. They’re not just amazing artists— they’re real forces for good in our community. I couldn’t be more grateful for them, their time and talent—and I’m endlessly impressed with how many people worked hard to produce this piece. But a MASSIVE thank you goes to my friend and amazing producer, Gazzo, who helped pulling everyone together to create this amazing, collaborative track.

VMAN How did this process work as far as music production?

EF I started with recording my guitar track and my vocal track, after that I sent the song to the various artists, starting with Gianluca Pellerito and Saturnino (drums and bass). After that the song was sent to everyone else who recorded their part and after collection everyone’s part, Gazzo did an amazing job in mixing all the different tracks!

VMAN Can you give us some insight as to how you went about filming this video during quarantine?

EF It was challenging to say the least, but I felt a sense of urgency to do something and had to come up with a creative, collaborative (and safe) way to deliver a strong message while being stuck in quarantine. We planned everything out to a T in order to respect all the social-distancing guidelines: I filmed my part of the video in under an hour, at sunrise (call time was 4:30 A.M.) and right outside my apartment, to ensure no-one was on the street & my film-crew wouldn’t have to travel far.

But we were also incredibly lucky. About 30 mins into our shoot, an unmarked NYPD car drove up to us and the officer rolled down his window to ask what we were doing. We explained the concept behind the music video & the purpose of this initiative and the officer immediately turned on his sirens and helped redirect the few cars on the road around us.

I’m humbled to see how many people worked tirelessly to make this happen. It wasn’t just 20 international artists, the amazing volunteers at the Red Cross, and my entire team, but it was also a ton of other friends & supporters (including an NYPD officer)!

VMAN Can you talk about the inspiration behind the video concept?

EF The idea was to send the most moving message to as large an audience as possible, in order to drive as many donations as we could to the Red Cross. To me music means sharing, so I wanted to open this up to as many people as possible & invite anyone who could, to collaborate.

It was really beautiful to see how this whole video came together, it was exactly what I envisioned; if anything, I feel deeply emotionally satisfied with how it turned out!

VMAN Why did you choose the Italian Red Cross specifically?

EF Italy is one of the most hard-hit regions globally. I wanted to actively contribute to relief efforts. I may live in NYC and create music in English, but I am Italian at heart and want to be able to give back to my country no matter where I find myself.

The Italian Red Cross is doing an incredible job during this time and their volunteers deserve our praise & our fullhearted support. But I understand this is a global pandemic, which is why I want to encourage my fans to donate to the Italian Red Cross or any National Red Cross/Red Crescent Society in any other country. The volunteers of the International Red Cross have been putting their lives on the line across the globe in order to deliver urgent aid and I admire them endlessly.

VMAN How are you feeling during this time?

EF Obviously it’s a very difficult moment for everyone, in my case I’m very sad to see so much suffering & to be so far away from my family. But I’m also hopeful, many things will probably chang—I hope most things will change for the better.

I took this moment as an opportunity to devote myself to my music and the creation of my upcoming project and songs. I was lucky to be able to get out of town, and be closer to nature for 2 months, in order to focus on writing and writing and writing.

VMAN Can you talk about the effects of COVID and social distancing on your creativity?

EF At first it was not easy—we were getting bombarded with so much terrible news every single day that we were thrown into a panic. But after some time, I was able to adjust and resume my focus on creating new songs. Thankfully it’s 2020, and technology can be a big help in moments like these, I’m in online writing sessions almost every day but am still adjusting.
