Often times, children are turned off by their parents' career choices and decide to forge a completely different path of their own. Elizabeth Hilfiger is not one of them. The daughter of Tommy Hilfiger always knew that wanted to go into fashion and created her own space by founding her clothing line, Foo and Foo, making her one of our picks for the Class of 2018. The rising designer was presented as one of the first inductees at our party with UNIQLO to celebrate the Class and Uniqlo U's Spring/Summer 2018 collection. Read below as Elizabeth answers our questions about getting her start, the issues she cares about, and her vision for the fashion industry.

What's your vision for the industry you work in for 2018?

I hope that there can be a gender non-specific fashion week, and that all designers can collaborate all the time. That’s fun.

What's the best advice you've ever received and why?

The best advice I have received (maybe ever) is not to panic, and to find a solution right away.

What social/political issues or causes resonate with you most, and why?

Gender and sexuality equality. It's all so simple, yet so sensitive. I identify as queer and I thought I was bisexual but I take it back, because it's too exclusive, so I am a queer pansexual.

What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced so far? How did you overcome it?

Biggest challenge is learning to shower every day. But I didn’t shower yesterday or today :/

How did you get your start?

I was working as an assistant for a production manager at a fashion brand and I realized I needed to do clothes of my own. But I feel like I'm still just starting.

How do you define success for yourself? Is it different than happiness?

When someone understands my vision, and is inspired by it. But being happy is also cool.

When and where do you feel most creative?

When I’m with people walking around the streets, and when I'm in the back of cars watching people in the streets.

Who is your dream collaborator, in any field (music, art, fashion, etc.) and what kind of project would you love to do with this person?

I would love to collaborate with Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot and do a totally glam shoot!

Where do you want to be professionally in 5 years? In 10 years?

5 years —making suits. 10 years — still alive.
