Ella Emhoff’s Runway Debut for Proenza Schouler

Fall/Winter 2021 collection

A sleek wardrobe created to inspire, comfort and empower the modern-day woman, complete with a cameo from  none other than Ella Emhoff. Following the Inauguration, Vice President Kamala Harris step-daughter was signed to IMG Models, her strut across the Proenza Schouler catwalk marks her NYFW debut. Perhaps a nod to Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez alma mater, Parsons School of Design, where Emhoff is currently studying fine arts, apparel and textiles.

After printing a hardbound book for spring ’21, McCollough and Hernandez turn the page to a new chapter. The duo have gone digital, they filmed their latest collection two days ago in Water Mill against clean cut concrete backdrops, working both in contrast and cohesion with hints of color and clear cut tailoring. Now available to stream on an especially-built website, where a video plays as hero, and below the looks are showcased across a grid, offering a variety of views.

As the five boroughs cozy up for a few snow days, it feels apt seeing knitwear center the collection, first spotted in chunky cable knit cardigans layered with a chic grey wrap skirt and later appearing as lengthy bias cut dressed rendered in muted greens and warm grays. While similar silhouettes show up in crisp crepes, alongside abstract crochet shapes and straps, synonymous to the brands exploration of minimalism and craft.

The seasons suits are structural with high lapels, single-breasted tailoring, cut in jet black, optic white and deep plum purple technical wool and paired with two-tone cashmere coating. Allowing wearers to experience comfort and practicality, while emitting a sense of sensual style and indulge in tactile pleasure.

Tie dresses stand out afresh amidst the dark hues, animated with flamboyant fringes sleeves and breezy bodied hems. Geometric prints take the shape of billowing long-sleeved matte jersey dresses, energized in clothes of red, yellow and gray.

An array of accessories arrive with similar display, luscious leather goods such as the new Pipe Bag is created in a lux bonded calf skin. While established handbag families like the Harris and Rollo reappear in bright seasonal colors, galvanized by puffy quilted lambskin— a possible solution to the dreariness that can sometimes plague our winter outfits.

A new rendition of the popular rondo slipper occasionally peeps out from under lengthy toiles, revealing themselves in blond and Tuscan shearling, keeping feet warm and stylish.

The collection is available to pre-order on www.proenzaschouler.com until March 18th.
