Embark on a Stationary Journey with Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2021 Collection

Making the most of the cards dealt this year, Nicolas Ghesquière wants us to know — Fashion is a game.

Louis Vuitton’s Cruise Collections typically travel to exotic locations, creating insanely memorable presentations year after year. V can vividly recall the iconic LV Cruise runways in Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, on the French Riviera, and in New York City’s JFK airport.

This year, under the guise of creative director Nicolas Ghesquière, the 2021 collection is going to a remote location — one we have all become all too familiar with — home sweet home.

Inspired by a stationary journey, Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2021 line titled “Game On” departs on a discovery inwards. The theme, heavily influenced by the world’s ongoing health pandemic and travel bans, recognizes that time is providential. Using this period as a chance for creative contemplation, emotional exploration, and rediscovery, the brand is asserting: Fashion is a game.

Noticeably, a deck of cards is used as symbolism throughout the entire collection. Louis Vuitton describes their inspiration as, Mingling lines between the Monogram flowers and four suits of a card deck. In this fantasy of illusion, clubs bloom, spades pierce, diamonds sparkle, and the almighty heart reigns.

These four suits are featured as decorative details and influence the shape of handbags, patterns, motifs, and color palette throughout. The clothing airs on the casual side, with relaxed track and lounge trousers, Archlight sneakers, sporty jackets, dresses, and accent shirts complementing the expressive handbags.

Making the most of the cards dealt this year, the designer reflects, “I looked somewhere that has been calling out to me for a long time, somewhere I hadn’t taken the time to go back to. To uncover one inspiration after another. This is an exploration of my creative identity.”
