Empress Of Releases Anthemic Single ‘Dance For You’
The upbeat track is the second single off of the artist’s forthcoming EP ‘Save Me’
If you aren’t familiar with the snappy melodies and synth-filled production of Lorely Rodriguez aka Empress Of, you should certainly take note. The LA-based songstress has toured with the likes of Lizzo, collaborated with Khalid, and boasts a dynamic sound that falls somewhere between the realm of ultra-pop and experimental electronica. Now, the Honduran-American artist has released the feel-good ‘Dance For You,’ the latest track off of her forthcoming EP Save Me.
“I love the lyrics on this song. I made this in Minneapolis with BJ Burton. It was freezing outside. I was in a cave-like studio in the snow literally dancing as I wrote this,” Empress Of explained in a statement released to V. ‘Surrender to me like this’ is a touching lyric for me because I’m not hurt over this person anymore. I’ve come out the other side.”
Starting with a punchy beat and an equally as hypnotic opening lyric, ‘Dance For You’ is a breakup song, not a heartbreak song. Yes, there is a difference. On the track, Empress Of appears confident as she navigates a post-breakup reality with tinges of female and self empowerment throughout. The accompanying video, with visuals directed by Alexis Gómez, sees the artist dance against a sleek, minimal backdrop as she recites lines like “Forget I used to dance for you/Forget I used to love/Forget I used to love for you.”
The newly released single comes after ‘Save Me,’ the title single off of the soon-to-be-unveiled EP which will be released on June 24. Save Me is a follow up to Empress Of’s 2020 full-length album I’m Your Empress Of and was written over the course of 2021. If the two lead singles are any indicator, we are in for a treat.
