Empress Of Releases Lively Video for “Turn the Table”

The animated video is the latest offering from the LA-based artist’s recent EP “Save Me”

“One of the biggest [keys] for me making music is being out of my comfort zone,” Lorely Rodriguez—aka Empress Of—explains in a statement released to V. “When you’re out of your comfort zone that’s when innovation happens.”

After a career-best 2020 album I’m Your Empress Of, Rodriguez is certainly continuing her avant-pop reign—especially considering the artist’s recent move to go independent and spearhead her own music label, Major Arcana. The first project under Rodriguez’s label is the five track EP, Save Me. Both a continuation of the previous album and a bridge forward, Rodriguez toys with pulsating production and themes of heartbreak and empowerment throughout.

The EP’s latest single, “Turn The Table,” sees Rodriguez excel with slow-building, high-powered vocals and a melody that is equally captivating as it is infectious. Directed by Jerome AB, the accompanying video follows Rodriguez as she moves effortlessly in a wall-less warehouse in Grand Cayman, shrouded by sunlight and foliage. Seductive, powerful, and catchy in all the right ways, the Jimi-E Stack-produced “Turn The Table” is one of Empress Of’s strongest showings to date.

“I went around renting these spaces, traveling a bit,” Rodriguez says of her artistic process on Save Me. “And it was a little bit miserable, but it helped to isolate certain feelings and lyrics and songs. I did that for about half a year.”
