Expect a slight frills hangover

Simone Rocha’s Spring Summer 2022 collection had a bit too much to dream last night, and was a round of ruffles over the speed limit. On September 20th, in an overcast cathedral, Rocha left no bow behind with her doll-house disco designs.

Imagine red-light district chic crashing a prairie tea party. Weapon of choice? A slingshot of pearls and PVC poison. The Dublin born designer invites us to see in black and white. Gowns white as votive candles grace the isles, a prayer of silk swaying with each step. Eyelet embroidery frosts skirts and gems drizzle chests. Ballerina’s jailbreak out of their jewelry boxes, as tulle tutus gush from underneath cotton robes. Midnight frocks wilt with full lace. Models are haloed in diamonds and tiaras of cold crystal teeth, like hazy nymphs in a dense forest.

We see the submissive bound to the dominant, as latex platform boots trample and buckle to knee caps. Harlot harnesses rangle in sweetheart nightgowns. Sleeves on steroids, swollen with gauze are structured with boned bustiers. The true guests of honor at this victorian-burlesque are the collars. Collars engulf gowns, drip down to waistlines, sweep like dove wings off shoulders. It’s safe to say that after this show, we all have a ruffles and frills hangover. In the best way possible.
