Escape to Kim Petra’s Dreamy Malibu With Her New Lead Single

A vibrant, neon world with tanning lotions for trips to the moon.

Pop star on the rise, Kim Petras is making a lot of noise. This week she released her brand new single, “Malibu” following a string of singles including “Icy,”  “Heart to Break,“Sweet Spot,” “Close Your Eyes,”  “Broken,”  “Hillside Boys,” and “I Don’t Want It At All.” And just a couple weeks ago she took part in The Stonewall Inn Gives Back – A Livestream Fundraising Concert for the LGBTQ+ Nightlife Industry and workers in need during the COVID-19 crisis, where she covered Paris Hilton’s “Stars Are Blind.”

“Malibu” takes the pop sensation back to her ‘escapist pop’ roots with its sun-kissed synths and a shimmering chorus. The track is the lead single of her long awaited album. “This is really a new start, the beginning of a new chapter and a new album cycle,” Kim tells Insider. “I don’t feel heartbroken anymore. I don’t feel caught up in that. I just want to make music that makes me want to dance and makes me forget about all the stupid stuff right now.”

German-born star creates a dreamy, magical world in the music video for the new track—the Malibu she used to see on TV and in movies like ‘Baywatch’ back in her hometown. She admits that she was disappointed to see that Malibu is actually quite boring so she wanted to recreate the fantasy of it and bring in her interest in love again.
