Everything That Happened at Super Bowl LVII
Yes, Rihanna is pregnant
This year’s super bowl had many names – the Rihanna concert, the Kelce bowl… the list goes on. It’s safe to say there was a lot happening both on and off the football field Sunday night, from A-list onlookers to a pregnancy announcement to a last-minute upset. So, without further ado let’s dive into all things Super Bowl LVII.
Before we discuss anything else, here’s a quick refresher on how the game went: in what was a close game for nearly four quarters, the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 with the scoring of a field goal that broke a tie with just mere minutes left in the fourth quarter. The Chiefs had previously won the Super Bowl in 2020, during which they were similarly down until the last minute. The Eagles were last in the Super Bowl in 2018, in which they won against the New England Patriots. But what also made this Super Bowl particularly interesting – and historical – was the brother-on-brother matchup between Jason and Travis Kelce, the former of whom plays for the Eagles while the latter plays for the Chiefs. In an adorable show of motherly love, Donna Kelce wore a custom jersey featuring one half of both team as she adoringly cheered on her sons from the sidelines, making this the first Super Bowl since the tradition started that brothers have played on opposing teams.
Next up, we can not wait another minute to discuss all of the musical performances. The game kicked off with an emotional rendition of the National Anthem sung by country star Chris Stapleton, and was followed by a rendition of “Life Every Voice and Sing” performed by Abbot Elementary star Sheryl Lee Ralph. At halftime, we saw the performance that has been on everyone’s lips since it was announced – Rihanna. The star opened her 12-song set with her pop hit “Bitch Better Have My Money”, followed by fan-favorite songs including “Rude Boy”, “Wild Thoughts”, “Umbrella”, and more. While seemingly suspended in air atop an elaborate “floating” set, the multi-hyphenate and her dancers gave an unforgettable 13-minute show, during which she dropped the news that she would be expecting her second child. While fans had once speculated new music would be coming from the singer following her first live performance in years, it seems that this may not be the case.
Per usual, the game was also star-studded with A-listers such as Jay-Z and Blue Ivy, Adele, Billie Elish, Paul Rudd, Cara Delevinge, Lebron James and more in Arizona to watch the game. Celebs were also present at the game in another way – the commercials. T-mobile provided a star-studded cast of John Travolta, Zach Braff and Donald Faison while Will Ferrel starred in Netflix’s commercial. A fan-favorite of the night featured Dunkin’ tapping their number-one customer Ben Affleck to lead their ad, in which the actor got behind the drive thru to try his hand at the job, while surprising unsuspecting customers and getting a visit from Jennifer Lopez.
All in all, this Super Bowl was definitely one for the books – here’s to the next!
