Everything V Know About ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’

Our anticipation is making the actual release feel like it’s moving at a glacial pace…
The Devil Wears Prada 2 arrives in seven weeks, and V is counting down the days. Miranda Priestly graces our screens once again in a new teaser released on March 12, and she’s as demanding as ever. In the minute-long clip, she deboards a helicopter, walks a carpet in a scarlet gown, and knocks on Andy Sachs’s front door at what appears to be a very early hour.
She also delivers a new deadpan one-liner. From the head of a conference room table, she poses a question about a photoshoot to Andy: “And the models were encouraged to mill around like starving goats in the parking lot of a methadone clinic in New Jersey?”
Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway revive their old dynamic, but it’s easy to see that the years have imbued Andy with a savviness that was nowhere to be found when Miranda first interviewed her for an assistant job.
As we kill time until May 1—by all means, move at a glacial pace…—we’ve rounded up everything you need to know before heading to the theater.
Alongside Streep and Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci will reprise their roles as Emily Charlton and Nigel. Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman will also return as Lily, Andy’s best friend, and Irv Ravitz, chairman of Runway’s parent company, Elias-Clark. Director David Frankel, screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, and producer Wendy Finerman have also returned for the sequel.
Simone Ashley, star of Bridgerton Season 2, has joined the cast. She’ll be accompanied by Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Kenneth Branagh, Pauline Chalamet, Conrad Ricamora, Helen J. Shen, and Caleb Hearon, among other newcomers. Branagh is set to play Miranda’s husband.
When we last saw Andy Sachs, she had thrown in the towel at Runway and was moving on to a nobler career in local journalism. So… what is she doing in Miranda’s office? Andy, stylish as ever, rekindles her friendship with Nigel in the official trailer released on February 1. Miranda appears in a pair of Valentino Rockstud stilettos, a bold 2010s throwback.
Andy’s return to the magazine also begs the question: what has become of Nate Cooper? According to Entertainment Weekly, Adrian Grenier, who played her less-than-supportive long-term boyfriend, will not be returning for the sequel.
Another jarring realization was revealed in the February 1 trailer: Miranda might not remember Andy. When she reunites with her boss at Runway, she’s met with, “Sorry, who is this? Do you know her? Do I know her?” Could Miranda really forget the mentee who secured an unpublished Harry Potter book for her daughters, or is she saving face? That’s one question we don’t have the answer to.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 will be released in theaters on May 1. Tickets are on sale now through Fandango.
