When singer-songwriter BANKS delivers new music, there are a few things you can be certain of: it’s going to be beautiful, it’s going to be fire, and it’s going to be relatable.

Enter her latest release (and first proper single in two years), “I Hate Your Ex-Girlfriend.” And may V just say: amen to that. We’ve all felt it in some capacity, but now one of our favorite musical powerhouses has said it. With a bit of extra bite from singer, rapper, and V Girl Doechii, the angst-filled track will resonate with anyone who’s encountered a lover’s ex who just won’t quit tryin’ to hit.

Of course, there are always two sides to any story, and this track might have you questioning who the “bad guy” is—the overstepping ghost of an ex or the territorial current partner? Such is a piece of BANKS’ depth and narrative prowess, somehow merging themes of self-empowerment with more profound reflections on the tug-of-war we often play with our partner’s present and past, all done with the faintest hint of humor.

(But ultimately, the bad guy is the delusional ex sending suggestive pics and “I miss u” texts).

The latest single is a promising taste of the artist’s new music to come, all in the midst of celebrating the 10-year anniversary of her debut album, Goddess, with a forthcoming Goddess Unplugged version that will drop on November 15th.

Premiering today exclusively on V is the new Charlie Dennis-directed music video, about which Dennis said: “My intention with this video was to make an equally as thrilling visual to accompany the song. It was within my interest to approach the video like a fashion editorial, with bizarre and big fashion moments that don’t necessarily make sense but help to contextualize and build on this uncanny and erotic world that the storyline between Banks and Doechii exists in.”
