An Extended Cut of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood hits theaters

Fans will get to enjoy 10 more minutes of Tarantino’s visually stunning thriller.

Today, Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will return to theaters; the extended cut of the film will include four new scenes and add ten minutes of additional footage to the movie’s running time of 161 minutes.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood has been well received by critics and audiences alike, with many praising Tarantino for capturing the ambiance of 1960s Hollywood. Others commended Tarantino for focusing on Sharon Tate’s humanity instead of her tragic death. Sharon Tate’s sister was even moved to tears by Margot Robbie’s performance. The film has drawn some criticism, however. Tarantino was called out for not giving Robbie enough lines, and Sharon Tate’s friend, Ava Roosevelt, felt that Sharon was unjustly portrayed as a ditz and a sex symbol. Bruce Lee’s daughter, Shannon Lee, and his friend, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, critiqued Once Upon a Time in Hollywood for being disrespectful to Bruce and turning him into a caricature.

Still, the film has garnered an impressive fan base, and the extended cut is generating quite a bit of excitement. “Audiences have shown tremendous support for this movie, and we look forward to offering them another opportunity to see the film as it’s meant to be seen– in theaters on the big screen –with more sights and sounds of the sixties from Quentin Tarantino as an added treat,” said Sony’s president of domestic distribution, Adrian Smith, in a statement

Rumors that the film will receive the same treatment as The Hateful Eight a four-hour director’s cut on Netflix –have also begun to percolate. But for now, fans will have to be satisfied with the re-release hitting 1000 theaters on October 25th.
