Fans of Stockholm-based label Acne Studios will now have more reason to covet the brand which has become know for an aesthetic that combines Scandinavian minimalism with an eye for detail and eccentric flair (case in point, Acne Studios’s capsule Spring 2017 collection embellished with psychedelic emoji’s). Beginning today, the brand will relaunch its entire denim collection under the label Acne Studios Blå Konst—Swedish for “Blue Art”—in a move intended to strengthen and solidify its denim offerings while also distinguishing itself from the line’s regular, seasonal collection.
The decision to relaunch the brand’s denim line was, for Acne Studio’s creative director, Jonny Johansson, reflective of a desire “to create a free space running parallel to our regular collections.” “Our denim,” Johansson goes on to note, “will be like a study always evolving and moving forward.” Acne Studios Blå Konst will offer six permanent styles of denim, complemented each season with additional designs, including accessories, footwear, and luggage.
For its debut collection, Johannsson drew inspiration from the Swedish countryside as well as from his interest in utilitarian workwear. “I was thinking about what we wear in the Swedish countryside, where I spend as much time as I can,” Johannsson points out, going on to note, “I was also thinking about the anonymity of workwear, and how it can be worn by anyone, no matter who they are or what they do.”
Pieces from the new women’s collection include denim skirts in deep indigo, khaki jumpsuits offered in several colors and prints, and range of fitted denim jackets, as well as hiker backpack and the sure-to-be-coveted “Sherpa” low-top sneaker, embellished with marbled graphic prints and sporting the ubiquitous nylon laces hikers have come to love. Given Johansson’s savvy aesthetic and understated appeal, Acne Studios Blå Konst is certain to blaze a new trail for Acne and its fans.
Acne Studios Blå Konst will launch in all Acne Studios stores and on acnestudios.com from 6 April.
