Fendi Celebrates the Baguette’s 25-Year Anniversary with New York Pop-Up

The SoHo pop-up will feature a selection of re-editions of one of fashion’s favorite handbags

In celebration of the Baguette’s 25-year anniversary, Fendi is opening up a pop-up shop in SoHo that features iconic re-editions of the bag. The celebration of the bag’s quarter-century birthday began at Fendi’s New York show in September, and will continue in the fashion house’s specialized pop-up from November 3 to December 23. Visitors to the shop will be able to find some of Fendi’s most legendary Baguettes that include denim, cashmere, shearling, embroidery, and more.

The Fendi Baguette has made a name for itself as one of the holy grails of it-bags from its inception in the late nineties. “It was a special day when I designed this bag; the stars aligned,” said artistic director of accessories and menswear, Silvia Venturini Fendi. “The horoscope said it was a Fendi day.”

The bag was made notorious in part due to it being a closet staple for Carrie in Sex and the City, where it then went on to be photographed in the hands of anyone who was anyone in the early 2000’s. The Baguette has remained so pertinent in fashion due to the ever-evolving range of materialization that it is offered in, season after season.

“I didn’t want to do a traditional ‘collection’ for the anniversary,” said creative director Kim Jones. “Rather it’s a celebration of a time, of the moment the Baguette became famous. I relate that time to a sense of freedom in excess and fun – both qualities the Baguette possesses.”

The Baguettes – also available in micro and mini sizes – are on display in a brilliantly colorful space on Prince Street, featuring a digital archive room that displays the re-editions. In addition to the range of Baguettes, the pop-up will also feature fashion jewelry and a selection of small accessories, celebrating the anniversary of a bag that is not only a fashion classic, but a monumental object in pop culture.
