FENDI launches FF Vertigo Collection with Artist Sarah Coleman

The New York artist reimagines Fendi’s iconic FF logo

Fendi FF Vertigo Capsule Collection

Visual Artist Sarah Coleman is known for playfully manipulating designer materials to transform everyday objects. She first made a name for herself by deconstructing vintage Louis Vuttion luggage, and using the raw materials to upcycle furniture. She then moved on to Gucci, and Fendi prints, using the iconic house motifs to breathe new life into everyday items. In 2020 Fendi’s Artistic Director Silvia Venturini invited Coleman to collaborate with Fendi, and design three new versions of the timeless peekaboo bag (a glow-in-the-dark nappa version with fluorescent beads, another in the brand’s signature yellow hue, and a canvas creation adorned with multicolored thread). She was also commissioned to revamp the interior of Fendi’s Miami boutique.

“Sarah has a great sense of artistic fun and clever irony. I was naturally drawn to her work and we first explored a collaboration with our Miami Design District boutique during Design Miami last December,” commented Venturini. “We always love to partner with new designers who share the values of Fendi, yet with their own personal style. Sarah not only values craft, but challenges it with her subversive sense of humor, taking it into new directions.” Now once again the New York based artist is collaborating with Fendi with a new FF Vertigo Summer Capsule Collection. With vibrant blues and acid yellows Coleman has created a 70’s inspired psychedelic version of the FF motif. The print has been applied to the signature Peekaboo bag, Baguette bag, the Bauletto mini, and the Fendi Mini Sunshine Shopper. The new iteration honors the history of the iconic fashion house, and celebrates Coleman’s creative vision.

The collection itself offers women elegance and functionality. Utilitarian skirts are paired with windbreakers, bodysuits, lace dresses, trench coats, bikinis and co-ord activewear. There’s a sense of freedom, adventure, and fun which carries through to the menswear, and junior pieces. The collection is complete with watches, rucksacks, camping equipment, a tent, polaroid camera, and skateboards, all designed with the FF Vertigo Print. Speaking about the collaboration Coleman said, “my intention for the collection with Fendi was to be very playful and free. Silvia asked me to be ‘disruptive,’ to push the limits and get outside of the box, this gave me a huge amount of inspiration and confidence. She is so authentic to herself and the brand with a visionary’s perspective. I was so empowered by Silvia and the Fendi team to be myself. It was an incredible experience and I really cannot find words to express my gratitude.”

The Fendi FF Vertigo Capsule Collection is available now, worldwide in stores, and online.
