FENDI x Mabeo present Kompa Collection

The house of FENDI and design studio Mabeo have collaborated to create a ten piece furniture collection titled Kompa for this year’s Design Miami. The name of the collection comes from Mabeo’s eldest craftsperson, and means “something that is complete, implying an interest in holistic approaches when considering a project.”
The design studio was founded by Peter Mabeo in Gaborone, Botswana in 1997, and has worked since then to increase the availability of the work of African artisans around the world. The brand does this in a manner that portrays specific qualities such as purity and simplicity of form. Further qualities the brand reflects are thoughtfulness in the use of natural materials, the extent of the work put in by the craftspeople, and the collaborating designer’s consideration of Africa’s history and heritage.
For the collaboration with FENDI, Mabeo consulted with artisans across Botswana regarding techniques and perspectives to create the collection. The pieces in the collection include the Loma Stool in two material options, efo Stool, Maduo Chair, Chichira Cabinet, Foro Chair, Gabi-Gabi sculpture, Gabinyana Table Lamp, Shiya Seat, and FENDI’s classic Peekaboo handbag with a Mabeo touch.
