FENDI’s Fall/Winter 2022 Collection Fuses The Past And Present

Fendi’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection at Milan Fashion Week merges two of the luxury fashion house’s past ones through a modernized approach.

FENDI’s Fall/Winter 2022 debut by Mr. Kim Jones as part of Milan Fashion Week influences two of the luxury fashion house’s classics: Spring/Summer 1986 and Autumn/Winter 2000 collections. These elements combine to produce a collection that balances strength and its gentle latter. Its compositions emboldened by FENDI 1986 were inspired by Delfina Delettrez entering Roman headquarters wearing a printed blouse stolen from her mother’s wardrobe. Through this happening, Jones delved even more into FENDI’s history and rediscovered the late Karl Lagerfeld’s collection of that year, an ode to his adoration for the artistic movement.

Jones was first announced as FENDI’s Artistic Director of Couture and Womenswear last September, with his first collection premiering the previous month as part of Paris Haute Couture Week. “The best way to explore the FENDI archives is through the Fendi wardrobes,” he shared in a press statement to V. “And these are collections which, although they come from the past, feel very now. It’s a wardrobe designed for every aspect of a woman’s life, for every generation, and it all started with Delfina.” Silvia Venturini Fendi also expressed her sentiments about the collection. “It brings me directly to the history of my family. I saw the prints on myself; Kim saw them on Delfina,” she stated. “What interests me the most about fashion is when it isn’t something just for the moment – and with FENDI, that is always the case because it is never banal. There is always a story behind each piece, something a little different.”

The womenswear assemblage showcased majestic silhouettes featuring airy slip dresses accompanied by cashmere gloves, cropped jackets, mid-length skirts, two-piece styles, and formal blazer attire. Its color palette highlights pastels and earth tone hues that come together for a majority of looks. FENDI’s signature O’Lock print also premiered within its Autumn/Winter 2022 menswear collection delicately renders itself amongst this one. The collection’s accessories and jewelry were designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi and Delfina Delettrez, respectively, and showcase FENDI’s exquisite artistry through its details.
