Fendi’s SS22 Collection Serves Stunning Mod-Era Glam and Disco Elegance

Kim Jones’ Milan show celebrates class and style for the modern woman.

Chic with a capital “C,” Fendi delivers a truly transporting fashion experience. Womenswear artistic director Kim Jones’ Spring/Summer 2022 ready-to-wear show achieves a spectacularly glamorous and elegant collection. Set in a dynamic mirrored space with high arches and dim lighting, the runway emulates an exclusive 1970s disco, where anyone who is anybody would surely be in attendance. As the first in-person show that Jones has held, the director came in full force celebrating femininity, form, and style.

In partnership with the Antonio Archives—honoring the late Puerto Rican-American artists Antonio Lopez and Juan Ramos—Jones and artistic director of jewelry Delfina Delettrez bring to life a curated selection of ’60s mod styles and ’70s disco glam, aptly inspired by Antonio. The vision is clear au debut, when a plethora of tailored white separates came strutting down the runway. Sleek trouser suits, cropped blazers, trench coats, and even a stunning deep-v jumpsuit in stark white paired with structured silver and gold jewelry, forge the epitome of power dressing.

Minimalist bra tops with metallic detailing, fur patterned coats in black and white, and flowing kaftan gowns conceive a glamorous vision for the contemporary woman. Midway through the presentation the tones transition to soft mauves and neutrals. A draped leather dress accompanied by knee-high gold boots, beaming with class, follows a favorite pairing of today—long-sleeve turtleneck mini dresses in warm, tonal shades with knee-high boots to match. Nodding to modish shapes and retro charm, Fendi brilliantly balances modern interests.

Fringe, satin, and sequins galore, the collection wanders into a pastel reverie. Pale pinks, greens, purples, and yellows in cape-like and strapless gowns devise an elegant picture of dressing up for today. Continuing in the same spring hues, satin pant suits and trench coats redefine the boundaries of feminine forms.

With evening looks reminiscent of disco-days past, it is of no wonder that inspirateur Antonio designed clothes for the opening night of Studio 54. With fringed tassels for days, fabulous mini dresses in pastels and a statement pink instantly create movement, ever apt for a disco party. Finishing the show in deep brown dresses and sparkling black lace ensembles—turtlenecks, draped pencil skirts, flowing gowns—Fendi delivers a well-rounded collection, strong in reference to other eras but refined for the woman of today. As announced by the designer, the collection is “an irresistible ode to femininity” indeed. And a devastatingly elegant one at that.
