In collaboration with Universal Pictures International Italy, the Fondazione Prada will present “Wes Anderson – Asteroid City: Exhibition” in Milan from September 23 to January 7, 2024. The project includes a series of original sets, props, miniatures, costumes, and artworks featured in the movie.
The exhibition features a wide array of meticulously crafted sets and original props. Notable among them is the scaled-down model of the freight train slicing through the expansive desert landscape. Playfully scattered amidst this scene are vibrant pastel-colored vending machines stocked with an assortment of snacks, cigarettes, beverages, and even ammunition for the inhabitants of Asteroid City.
Adding to the nostalgic ambiance are a telephone booth, billboards, flags, street signs, various artworks, and a plethora of costumes, accessories, and sundry items belonging to the characters. This eclectic collection includes books, handwritten notebooks, and musical instruments, all thoughtfully arranged alongside set pieces to faithfully recreate memorable sequences from the film.
“My personal wish might be to have every prop and costume we ever made for all our movies transferred into the Fondazione Prada to live there indefinitely for all time (if they could spare us the space,” commented Wes Anderson. “Rem Koolhaas also designed one of my very favorite cinemas in the world right in the middle of it.”
The “Wes Anderson – Asteroid City: Exhibition” takes the language of film and brings it into a new artistic realm, inviting visitors to dive deeper into the complex themes of human existence and the various American political and social ideas woven throughout the director’s vision.
