Fossil Teamed Up With STAPLE For a Capsule Collection
The STAPLE x Fossil watches are a blast from centuries past.
Fossil Watches was teamed up with streetwear brand STAPLE to launch a limited-edition capsule collection.
Designed by streetwear pioneer Jeff Staple, the collection was inspired by watches from Fossil’s extensive archives, along with the concept of time itself. A nod to the history of both brands, the watch builds upon elements of the archival Fossil Sundial and Hologram watches from the 1990s with an egg-shaped case. Themes of excavation and discovery are both explored in the collection as well.
“For the STAPLE x Fossil watches, we blended the heritage of both brands to create something new that’s perfect for collectors,” said Staple, Founder of STAPLE & Reed Art Department. “The design features a special sundial and hidden Pigeon hologram — a nod to the Fossil archives with a STAPLE twist.”
The collection was revealed at the second annual STAPLE DAY, and released in tandem on Fossil, STAPLE and Hypebeast’s online and New York HBX storefronts. The STAPLEVERSE community was given first access to reserve a watch though an exclusive STAPLE x Fossil NFT. Along with the collection, the partnership brought an exclusive panel discussion, “TIMING IS EVERYTHING,” moderated by Jeff Staple and featuring creative consultant Nick Wooster, artist Westside Gunn, and digital artist pplpleasr.
“We are excited to partner with Jeff Staple, a streetwear pioneer, who shares the Fossil team’s love of product innovation,” said Melissa Lowenkron, General Manager of Fossil Brand. “Jeff’s creativity is inspiring, and our design team loved working with him to create a unique watch, digital smartwatch dials, and NFT for a new generation of Fossil fans, watch wearers and collectors.”
The collection includes thee colorways designed to look like excavated Earth, and are replicas of classic Fossil watches from the ’90s. Each timepiece has automatic movement, a stainless steel case (44mm), and a terrazzo stone-inspired silicone case jacket and straps. On each watch, the STAPLE Pigeon logo is printed on the caseback, and “STAPLE” is embossed on the strap’s keeper.
The collection also includes two limited-edition black rPet straps, for those who want to customize their watch. One features the STAPLE word logo, while the other features the pigeon logo. Three exclusive STAPLE x Fossil digital dials with the pigeon logo are also available for Gen 6 display smartwatches.
The STAPLE x Fossil watches retail for $280, while the straps retail for $40. You can shop the collection here.
