Although the teaser calls it “The One Where They Get Back Together” – a nod to the show’s signature episode title format – the reunion won’t be a brand new episode of Friends, but a special where cast members and producers will discuss the sitcom. Supporting actors including Maggie Wheeler (Janice), James Michael Tyler (Gunther), Reese Witherspoon (Jill), Tom Selleck (Richard), and Elliott Gould and Christina Pickles (Ross and Monica’s parents) are also set to participate.
The Reunion will also feature celebrity guest appearances from David Beckham, Lady Gaga, BTS, Cara Delevingne, Mindy Kaling, James Corden, Malala Yousafzai, and Justin Bieber.
The special has been rumored since at least November 2019 and was originally expected to air in May 2020. After a series of delays because of the Covid-19 pandemic, it was finally filmed this past April at the series’ original soundstage in Burbank, California, with a live audience.
Friends originally aired for 10 seasons between 1994 and 2004 and became one of the biggest sitcoms of its time. All episodes are currently streaming on HBO Max.
