GANNI Unveils ’90s-Inspired Collab With Ahluwalia

Made from upcycled fabrics, the collection is a bold, vivid take on modern womenswear.

Danish brand GANNI is collaborating with London-based menswear label Ahluwalia on a brand new, 19-piece collection—one that is at once contemporary and nostalgic, giving an evocative, upcycled touch to ‘90s-inspired pieces.

The collaboration with the Danish streetwear brand marks the first advance into the world of womenswear for Ahluwalia, founded by Indian-Nigerian designer Priya Ahluwalia in 2018. Both labels emphasize sustainability in their creation; sacrificing the environment for fashion is unthinkable with the new collection, which is simultaneously eco-conscious and chic, bringing standout slip dresses, jackets, jumpsuits and co-ords from reworked deadstock fabric of GANNI’s 2020 productions.

“Since the moment I met the GANNI team, especially Ditte, I have felt excited about what was possible,” said Priya Ahluwalia. “The project has been great in showing how leftover materials can be totally transformed and are worth cherishing.”

Across the collection, vibrant striped patterns paired with rich, dark tones are key. A zebra-like motif is splayed across dresses and tops, woven into slim panels on trousers and jackets, while deconstructed panels of varying hues of brown are constructed together to make patchwork coats, skirts, blouses and dresses, panels of leather or animal print underscoring the collection.

Deconstruction and reconstruction define the collection, put together into Ahluwalia’s classic ‘90s silhouettes—hemlines are cut at the mid-thigh, while tanks have thin straps and are close-fitting, with body-con styles being a running theme throughout, meshing voguish streetwear styles with everyday, eclectic prints.

The first of two drops launches on April 23, with the second expected in Fall 2021. Shop the GANNI x Ahluwalia collab this Wednesday in GANNI stores worldwide and at GANNI.com.
