GCDS Living Out Our Psychedelic Fantasies
God Can’t Destroy Streetwear FW21
Glitz and glamour are unveiled in a mind-altering video montage for GCDS Fall/Winter 2o21 collection. Creative director, Giuliano Calza, has mastered the digital fashion show. The brand’s loud graphics and eye-cacthing designers are elevated to whole other level, last season in full animation, now through enthralling video. Set in motion with a special kind of candy (created in partnernship with the Italian confectionery Leone,) the short film captures Calza’s intropection of mood and vibe alongside euphoric highs and lows, directed by Albert Moya, and with photo direction by Dani Fernández Abello. The final cut is an ASMR-fuelled symphony, opened by Rina Lipa, starring Maise Williams, and closed by Lara Mullen–accentuated by flickering scenery, fabulous fabrics and eery soundscapes.
Calza’s latest collections have been deeply reflective of the times, evidently adjusting his process to capture the personal within a continuously challenging context and tapping into a far and wide need for escape. GCDS gives us a taste of the highest highest, through hue and sparkle, sweetness akin to that sweet hit of candy.
“Right now, every trip counts,” says Calza. “Every perception, every reaction. Dark times lead to good times, and we must recognize every piece of this forward motion. We must learn from it, and we must allow our new selves to be reborn.”
Featuring both womenswear and means, this season’s lineup centers around plush, rich materials and more mature approach; arriving in flashes of tinsel that appear on frocks and glitter glints on blazers creating momentary elation. Bejeweled brallettes command attention as they spell out the brands name.
A broody, more serious tone lurks in the shadows complementing the vivacity; all-black pieces, including tank-tops, utility jackets and trousers are worn in between layers of lime green and bubble gum pink along with pops of logomania earrings, the fuzziest faux fur clogs, and the eye-catching Resina Moon Bag.
Jolts of color and snippets sultry shade electrify this trip of a collection, transporting viewers and wearers across an array of emotions that exist between reality and a dream.
