Gemfields, NET-A-PORTER Announce Walk For Giants Campaign

The two are working alongside Space for Giants to help raise funds to protect Africa’s elephants and their habitats.

At a time when travel and tourism have nearly slowed to a halt, wildlife and natural habitats have become even more vulnerable to exploitation. Thus, the international conservation charity Space for Giants has teamed up with Gemfields and NET-A-PORTER for a campaign titled Walk for Giants, which will go on to fundraise and build awareness towards African wildlife conservation.

The campaign begins with two exclusive capsule collections, one being a 44-piece collection from Gemfields’ world-leading supply of responsibly sourced colored gemstones. The second is a series of 15 sustainable collections from the online luxury fashion retailer NET-A-PORTER. Proceeds from these collections are going to Africa’s elephants and their habitats as a way to protect and bring them critical support.

“What Walk for Giants so brilliantly amplifies is that conserving existing natural landscapes is not just critical for the future of humanity but is also the best economic deal around,” said Dr. Max Graham, Founder and CEO of Space for Giants. “Nature-based businesses bring jobs, buy from local suppliers, pay taxes, and build national economies. But the natural assets these enterprises rely on–including Africa’s last populations of mega-fauna—are under grave risk. We must protect them now, so they can continue to deliver their value, forever. We are excited that Gemfields and NET-A-PORTER have chosen to use their influence to bring much needed attention and funds to this cause.”

Gemfields’ Walk for Giants capsule collection features their Zambian emeralds and Mozambican rubies within 44 pieces by 12 brand partners. The partners include AYA, Backes & Strauss, Bina Goenka, Fabergé, Fehmida Lakhany, Francis de Lara, GFG Jewelry by Nilufer, Margery Hirschey, Sandy Leong, VAK Fine Jewels, Valani Atelier, and Zoe & Morgan. As for NET-A-PORTER’s role in the campaign, the sustainable collections will come from Burberry, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Brunello Cucinelli, Chantecaille, and Ole Lynggaard Copenhagen in collaboration with Gemfields, and emerging designers like Hereu, Fisch, and Bassike.
