Gentle Monster Launches New “Bold” Collection
Their new capsule collection is stacked with styles made for the future
Since its inception in 2011, Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster has kept its finger on the pulse. Having previously collaborated with fashion houses like Moncler, Heron Preston, and Coperni (the label beloved by it-girls like Paloma Elsesser and Bella Hadid), Gentle Monster has positioned itself as a brand with real stakes in the industry.
Their latest launch, BOLD–the first iteration in a series of unique capsule collections set to launch throughout 2023–keeps the brand on that trajectory.
The line boasts twelve new designs, from sporty, futuristic aviators in both translucent and opaque colors, to full, pillowy oval shapes in ombre, and classic styles like square and rectangular frames in black. On the arm, each pair is ornamented with BOLD’s signature: silver-toned star motifs. These symbols offer a contemporary, futuristic element that hearkens to the art project the campaign was inspired by.
Entitled “Galaxy of 9 Evenings,” the campaign is photographed by Heji Shin (who has shot campaigns for the likes of Givenchy) and is inspired by “9 Evenings: Theater and Engineering,” an art project born out of New York City in 1966. “9 Evenings” was the first large-scale interdisciplinary project to bring the effort of artists, engineers, and scientists together in a singular work. In breaking down boundaries between otherwise separate worlds, the project ignited new opportunities for interdisciplinary creative expression.
With BOLD, Gentle Monster celebrates this forward-thinking spirit and furthers their identity as eyewear tastemakers.
