Gigi Hadid is a portrait of personality for the newest Miu Miu campaign. Showcasing the new suede editions of the Miu Miu matelassé, each visual is a uniquely positioned perspective on two distinct mediums of art. An uncertain intrigue guides the tale of a woman rendered photorealist, suspended between a painting and a photo — the past and present, V might say.

Inspired by the traditional high society portraiture of the twentieth century, the campaign’s visuals are first photographed by the titillating Steven Meisel before being digitally ‘painted’ by hand in a genuine echo of a brushstroke. Subtle nuances in light and tone are entirely accidental and far from fabricated.

Gigi Hadid holds the Wander and Arcadie handbags, their soft and supple matelassé texture mimicked in the tactile quality of the images. The model is positioned against panes of vivid color, and in her positioning, the Miu Miu matelassé transforms into a sort of still-life object study (remember those bowls of waxy fruit and verdant flowers?).
