Givenchy and Disney Reinterpret The Year of the Rabbit
House of Givenchy x Walt Disney’s limited edition capsule collection starring Oswald the Lucky Rabbit
Drawing inspiration from around the globe, Givenchy Creative Director Matthew M. Williams, cleverly designs the newest capsule collaboration around the upcoming Lunar Year, and Walt Disney’s 100th anniversary.
Pulling from Walt Disney’s archival vaults—Oswald, the lucky rabbit has become the symbol for the new collection, as the Lunar year of the rabbit approaches. Oswald—the precursor to Mickey Mouse, is first in the history of character animation. The campaign, and Oswald’s world tour will come to life in a mixed reality short produced in collaboration with both Walt Disney Animation Studios, and art director and photographer Julian Klincewicz. The animated tour will begin at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles, and end at the House of Givenchy in Paris. The short film features accompanying global talent such as Madelaine Petsch, Amber Liu and Alton Mason.
The capsule collections unique pieces embellish this adventure through motifs, and exquisite detailing. The sports-esque collection includes unique pieces that act as a snapshot of wearable art from the short film. One featured womenswear piece includes a blue varsity jacket with Givenchy and Paris lettering that accentuate placements showing Oswald the Lucky Rabbit offering a flower to his sweetheart, Ortensia. Pairing well alongside a menswear red varsity jacket that pictures Oswald riding a bronco to Los Angeles. The inclusion of global landmarks within Oswald’s world allows for the audience, and wearer to feel part of the animated adventure. Further collectible accessories include Disney x Givenchy tennis shoes, totes, and small cross-body bags to card carriers, phone cases, earbud cases, and caps.
