Back in December 2019, Los Angeles-based retailer Michael Stars collaborated with Gloria Steinem on a limited edition capsule collection. Although the project was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Gloria Steinem x Michael Stars collection is now being shared just ahead of the November election. This series intends to spark action during this important election year, and includes tees, masks and scrunchies with an illustration of Steinem herself beside the word “Vote.”

“Through the campaign, we’ve created a coalition of organizations that represent the growing power that women of color bring to this year’s elections — particularly the emerging new generation of voters,” said Suzanne Lerner, co-founder and president of Michael Stars. “For too long, these communities have been underrepresented and we support the drive to register people of color and to secure the right to vote safely and fairly, by mail or in person. We are especially honored to have Gloria Steinem stand with us in this effort, as a tireless champion for gender and racial equality.” 

Additionally, $50,000 USD of sales will be donated to three nonprofit organizations led by women of color: Voto Latino, Black Voters Matter and March On. Their mission is to increase voter turnout and ensure that all voices are heard during this year’s election. 

“The voting booth is the one place where everyone is equal, so democracy must start there. That’s why I’m teaming up with non-profit organizations Black Voters Matter, Voto Latino, and March On for a voter registration campaign to get out the vote in this year’s critical election,” Gloria Steinem added.
