GloRilla Stars in Tommy x Aries Collaboration
Modern prep meets luxury streetwear as London-based streetwear brand Aries becomes Tommy Hilfiger’s latest collaborator
Modern prep meets luxury streetwear as London-based streetwear brand Aries becomes Tommy Hilfiger’s latest collaborator. Teaming up to reimagine Tommy Jeans’ archive with a modern twist, the accompanying campaign and video pays homage to Tommy Jeans’ hip-hop history, fronted by Grammy nominated rapper GloRilla.
In classic Tommy fashion, the core of the 35-pieces of menswear, womenswear, and footwear focuses on classic silhouettes, styles and colors that have defined the brand since its inception – the black, white, red and Tommy flag we all know and love. But, Aries is also adding their spin on the looks this time around, adding handcrafted and distressed touches to assist in the reimagination of those staples.
Reflecting Aries founder Sofia Pranteras’ forensic approach to garment construction, dyeing and printing, the collection focuses on exaggerated layers, redefined denim and detailed garment construction, leveraging a raw and disruptive – yet engaging – aesthetic. Stand out pieces include a jacquard logo mini-dress, denim bucket hats, split colorway denim pants and Tommy x Aries t-shirts, all of which challenge the boundaries of where Tommy has gone. In support of Tommy Hilfiger’s sustainability vision, within the Tommy x Aries collection are a curated selection of items that are handcrafted by Aries from pre-existing garments, derived from surplus or post-consumer waste. Corsets made from upcycled denim, vintage tees, tape harnesses and jersey dresses are just a few of the styles created with that in mind.
Alongside GloRilla, the campaign’s lookbook features grime artist Novelist, and Aries family 5EB, Brian Tshabola, Haajar Djouada, Kasper Kapica, Kirbs, Nathan Rosen and Xiao Wang, all shot by photogropher Angelo Pennetta. In addition, a film by Pranteras will complement that campaign, drawing inspiration from Tommy Jeans’ hip-hop history and legacy within pop culture and set to an instrumental version of GloRilla’s “Unh Unh”.
The collection will be available starting on March 31, 2023, at select Tommy Jeans stores and wholesalers, on tommy.com and at the Aries store in London. Join the TOMMY JEANS community on social media via @TommyJeans, @Ariesarise, #TommyJeans and #TommyxAries.
