Gothic Allure at Blumarine Spring/Summer 2026

David Koma embraces dark romanticism, crafting a collection in which the sombre softens into sweetness while sweetness darkens into the sombre
Under David Koma’s creative direction, the collection emphasizes the tension between sweetness and seduction. Drawing inspiration from Gothic literature and love stories, Koma crafts a fantasy-pop narrative that is both magnetic and mysterious.
The recurring motif of the collection is the butterfly, a longstanding emblem of Blumarine, now paired with the dragonfly as this season’s symbol. Both creatures embody transformation and duality, appearing across embroideries, prints, and silhouettes. Their presence reinforces the dialogue between metamorphosis and identity. Just as the butterfly and dragonfly transform, the collection about the fluid states of becoming, where change itself becomes a form of allure.

Tiered georgette dresses flow dramatically, while satin gowns shimmer with butterfly embroideries edged in rebrodé lace and disrupted by frayed reconstruction. Elastic tulle contracts into spiderweb-like forms, and crinkled georgette blouses show butterflies morphing into leopard dots. Camouflage graphics spread across plumetis tiers embroidered with macramé, while taffeta and lace skirts over plissé soleil build clouds of motion. A black gown stands out with a beaded bodice tracing an insect’s spine above a tulle skirt blooming with butterflies, dragonflies, and spiders. Tailoring carries the same gothic spirit, with jackets morphed into wing-like panels and lace hidden beneath trouser waistbands.
Accessories and hardware deepen the darkness with rhinestone crosses glistening across chokers, earrings, and body charms, often joined by dragonflies and spiders. Metal bras, dragonfly breastplates, hammered cuffs, and armlets underscore Koma’s magnetic preference for metallics as a second skin. Sunglasses with butterfly-shaped lenses, adorned with studs or cross pendants, sharpen the collection’s edge of allure.

The bags expand iconic shapes through a sombre filter. The Messenger Bag, cut to resemble the derrière, returns in canvas with piercings and bug charms. Butterfly-shaped backpacks, crescent “hat bags” with cut-outs, and shearling-trimmed totes add playful yet sinister detail. Footwear completes the narrative with satin slingback stilettos, crystal insect embellishments, and tubular boots finished with delicate stitching.
Together, these elements create a collection that flutters between fragility and strength, underscored by recurring insect motifs. The sombre yields to sweetness, and the collection lingers in the space between delicacy and power, its details portraying the beauty of eternal transformation.
