Teasing hard on Twitter Grimes has promised fans new music and will release a brand new track, ‘So Heavy’ this week. Taking to Instagram Grimes shared the artwork for the new single and wrote, “Hooo boy finally just got release dates for things from label this AM “

“So Heavy” is the follow up single to ‘Violence’ and last year’s hit “We Appreciate Power” Back in March Grimes also shared a demo for the track “Pretty Dark.” The unconventional pop star has confirmed that her fifth studio album will be called ‘Miss_Anthropocene’. So Heavy will be the album’s lead single.

Miss_Anthropocene is set to tackle climate change and Artificial Intelligence (AI), with “human extinction depicted through a pop star demonology. Each song will be a different embodiment of human extinction as depicted through a Pop star Demonology”, commented Grimes.

The album is expected to be a new musical direction for Grimes, she’s ready to “just sit around and sing.” Grimes will be previewing tracks in Miami this December for a “one night only” show, ‘BIO-HAQUE’. “I feel like, for the first time, I’m really seeing myself as a singer, which is something I’ve never really done before, and it actually feels really good to just sing. I’ve always just been so pushing that part of myself away because I’ve been like, I’m a producer first”.

Speaking on last year’s track, We Appreciate Power, Grimes said “‘We Appreciate Power,’ introduced the pro-AI-propaganda girl group who embody our potential enslavement/destruction at the hands of Artificial General Intelligence” The new album will see Grimes take on climate change. “Climate change is something I’m only ever confronted with in a sad/guilty way, so my goal is to make climate change fun”.
