Gucci and Snap Inc. Celebrate a Fashion-Infused Film Collaboration at Art Basel
Harmony Korine’s “Duck Duck” is a blending of the film and fashion worlds.
Kicking off Art Basel Miami Beach, Gucci and social media company Snap Inc. hosted an evening soirée last night to celebrate the premiere of “Duck Duck”, a short film shot in 3D on the Spectacles 3 by American director and long-time friend of the Italian maison Harmony Korine. The film played throughout the course of the night, while music by Iggy Pop and Keen One echoed across the Melin Building of Miami’s Art District. Hosted by Alessandro Michele, Harmony Korine, and Evan Spiegel, the collaborative celebration proved to be a harmonious blend of fashion’s artistic significance and technology’s rapid advancements.
Through the circular lens of Snap’s Spectacles 3, “Duck Duck” fancifully follows a man dressed as a frankfurter and a number of furry fictional characters through an entirely altered fantasy world. Utilizing intense effects reminiscent of elevated Snapchat filters, the short film follows the rambunctious journey of the characters and ultimately provides a modified lens on reality.
Traversing art and fashion, Gucci and Snap Inc.’s collaborative cinematic debut garnered an eclectic crowd of both film and style icons. Among the star-studded roster of attendees were Alix Brown, Filip Custic, Jeffrey Deitch, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jeremy O. Harris, Angelica Hicks, Tali Lennox, Jared Leto, Xin Li, Gucci Mane, Sienna Miller, Colby Mugrabi, DJ Keen One, Ariana Papademetropoulos, Iggy Pop, Sterling Ruby, Antwaun Sargent, Chloë Sevigny, Dustin Yellin, John Yuyi, and Lucas Zwirner.
In addition to the unveiling of “Duck Duck”, Harmony Korine and Gucci released 50 limited edition Spectacles x Gucci by Harmony Korine video recording glasses. Designed and produced exclusively for Art Basel Miami Beach 2019, the fashion-infused camera was crafted to provide content creators with a heightened sense of luxury in their creative endeavors. A partnership of many facets, Gucci and Snap Inc. certainly set a high standard for the preceding announcements at Basel.
