Gucci Masters the Art of Silk

Two exclusive designs from Gucci presented in a new campaign.

Silk has a long and luxurious history within the Gucci house. The Art of Silk is a new chapter that revamps ten archival scarves with a modern gaze. Hand picked by Demna from the Gucci Archive in Florence, Italy, the chosen pieces map out the history and artistry of the fashion house. By honoring the originals, the new collection continues into the journey and mastery of the silk craft.

Two new Flora designs are paired with archival animal, nautical, and other signature prints from Gucci, a language in and of itself. While the new pieces are modernized, the original luxurious craft remains. The new designs take inspiration from the Flora motif, imagined by Vittorio Accornero in 1966. The Flora is a symbol that has endured the establishment and reign of the Gucci brand.

The limited edition pieces are made with Italian silk sourced in southern Italy, bringing together a system of community and innovation in the development of each piece. This mission is furthered through a collaboration with the Accademia delle Belle Arti di Firenze, students recreating the scarves in paintings. Ten were selected to exhibit at the Gucci Rodeo Drive store, bringing in an element of contemporary student creativity. The students will then receive scholarships from Gucci as a commitment and investment into the next generation of artists.

The Art of Silk builds upon the consistent mission of the brand to incorporate innovative craftsmanship with original design. Scarves have been a cornerstone of the brand, serving as a canvas for art to shine. The evolution of Gucci cannot be described without the inclusion of silk, as a material, storytelling device, and embodiment of beauty and artistry.
