Gucci Teams Up With ‘The Shoe Surgeon’ For Exclusive Basket Sneakers

The lineup is modeled by Lakers’ star Kyle Kuzma and taps on sustainability and the label’s heritage.

Gucci has partnered up with Dominic “The Shoe Surgeon” Ciambrone to design three new versions of the label’s Basket sneakers, unveiled this year. The limited-edition models will be sold exclusively at the Gucci Beverly Hills store, and are modeled by Los Angeles Lakers star Kyle Kuzma.

The collab is a real-life expansion of Gucci’s Sneaker Garage project, a section of the Gucci App launched in 2020 where users can experiment and create their own models of sneakers by combining details and materials from existing pieces. To create the three pairs, The Shoe Surgeon used upcycled materials and textiles from some of Gucci’s signature prints from different eras of the brand – essentially creating a timepiece that honors the label’s heritage.

Each piece connects and tells a part of Gucci’s history. The retro-inspired “Vintage Aged” Basket is carefully distressed, with experiments with bleach and dye details on the brand’s signature “GG” pattern. The “Neon Tech” shoes feature the logo printed in neon colors and details like stars and versions of the “GG” monogram. Bold colors are also featured on “What the Gucci,” with green and purple accents. The soles feature the label’s recognizable bee motif.

All sales proceeds from the three sneakers will go to the Oakland School of the Arts’ Step It Up program and will benefit the students with technology resources, such as design tablets and computers. The project is a free after-school arts initiative which, since 2014, connects and prepares students of color to enter OSA, making arts education accessible to underserved and marginalized Oakland youth.
