Enter Gucci’s SS19 Golden Era

Gucci pays homage to Hollywood’s Golden Era with SS19 ad campaign

Gucci’s SS19 ad campaign serves as a time machine, delivering Hollywood Golden Era-realness, the visuals transport us back to the 40s and 50s. Gucci’s creative director, Alessandro Michele, pays homage to classic Golden Era films like Cover Girl (1944) and American In Paris (1950). Preserving the glamour of the iconic time period, Michele utilizes obvious staples to evoke an authentic and undeniably glamorous portrayal. The models sport pencil thin eyebrows, finger-waved locks, and of course, gold, darling. It is the Golden Era, after all, isn’t it?

The campaign video is cinematic gold in itself. Gucci infuses modernity to the dated aesthetic with updated prints, textures, shapes, and silhouettes. Clear style-standouts of the campaign include an impeccably tailored Gucci-green suit embellished with gilded brooches, a pink fur coat, and a yellow ruffled dress. The campaign also introduces a new line of accessories ranging from opulent jewels, like silver chandelier necklaces and a silver, studded snake bracelets, to the Ophidia handbag in a new color way.

Earlier this week, Gucci debuted the latest phase of its gender equality awareness campaign, Chime For Change. The Italian house seemingly continues the theme throughout its new SS19 looks, with many looks translating from womenswear to menswear. In one frame, a male model dons a purple body suit with a plunging neckline, in which a gorgeous piece of jewelry lays. Under the creative direction of Michele, Gucci creates its own “Golden Era” while spearheading a movement of political awareness and inclusivity in luxury fashion.
