Nearly 200 years ago, Henry David Thoreau went to live on Walden Pond. In complete isolation, Thoreau discovered that we can never have enough of Nature (capitalization his). “We need the tonic of wilderness,” he wrote in the final pages of Walden (1854). His sentiments remain prevalent today, and it is this Thoreau-esque appreciation for nature that Haider Ackermann harnesses in his first capsule collection for Canada Goose. Following his appointment as the brand’s first-ever Creative Director in May, Haider Ackermann presents the ‘Snow Goose by Canada Goose’ line, drawing from his own personal connections to the influences of nature to inform the collection’s range.

The project comes as a revival of the brand’s heritage label, Snow Goose, which primarily operated in the 1990s. In addition to Ackermann’s stylistic nuances, a global campaign shot by Willy Vanderperre, a preeminent force in contemporary fashion photography, spotlights a potent cast of creatives, including actor and activist Ethan Hawke and model Julia Nobis. Through the use of portraiture, the campaign manages to capture the humanity inherent in every article of clothing and the unique characters that don an apparel fitted to withstand the elements of the outside world.

Ackermann, whose design have been worn by the likes of Timothée Chalamet, Tilda Swinton and Kylie Jenner, and is also Creative Director of Tom Ford, taps into the lived tranquility and escape that only the vast and beautiful can supply. In constructing the Fall/Winter 2024 capsule, Ackermann plays the ultimate negotiator, aiming to equip the wearer with the necessary wardrobe fit to defy the natural elements. Pulling looks from the brand’s nearly 70 year old archive, Ackermann fuses Canada Goose’s signature functional integrity and craftsmanship with the youthful silhouettes and colorful palette distinct to Ackermann’s stylistic repertoire.

The Rider Parka, a transformation of the Peacekeeper Parka, blends mid-90s tactical style with oversized proportions and licks of reflective material. Boasting a slew of sensible reserves ー think cinchable waists, side zips and utilitarian pockets ー the parka is supplemented by the brand’s heritage fabric, Arctic Tech. The Celestia Jacket, on the other hand, offers a lighter rendition of the classic shirt jacket, cut in reflective nylon and just as suitable for the office as it is for the outdoors.

For a lived-in look and soft feel, the Cleria Crew, a chunky wool rib knit, is the poised to serve as the perfect layering tool, and the Volt Turtleneck, made with ultra-thin body-skimming fabric, stands as an added tier of insulation (without the Michelin-man feel so characteristic of thorough layering).

To complete each ensemble, the Avalon Hat, a reiteration of the early 2000s heritage Classique Hat, is the cherry on top ー or the star on top of the tree if we’re going for a more seasonal metaphor. The Avalon comes with added interior insulation and a set of exaggerated ear flaps suited for extra warmth and foolproof for any Thoreau-style philosophizing yet to come.
