Heron Preston Makes Aesthetics Functional With Fall/Winter 2021 Collection

With workplace applications and timeless functionality, Heron Preston has crafted modern fashion that lives Between Two Worlds.

Between basics and aesthetics, fashion and workwear is the Fall/Winter 2021 collection by Heron Preston, “Between Two Worlds.”

Shifting the American label’s emphasis to a keen focus on serviceable fashion, Heron Preston has crafted a collection for the people, bringing workwear off the runway and into the real world. Over the course of the global pandemic, Preston fostered relationships with his customers on a closer scale, including healthy professionals required to wear OSHA-certified uniforms; now, these applications are made timeless, made unique and aesthetic.

“It’s about listening to my athlete, so to speak,” said Preston. “What does it take to bring fashion into real, applicable, usable workwear?”

Since his 2016 partnership with the NYC Department of Sanitation, applying runway-level garments to everyday usage has been a staple of Heron Preston, and the Fall/Winter 2021 collection reinforces the utilitarian, practical aspects of the clothes.

Flame-resistant textiles weave their way through the new collection in menswear and womenswear designs, featured in a hooded jacket, zip shirt jacket, two polos and a pair of track pants, each minimally decorated aside from the signature orange Heron Preston label: ideal for the workplace, on the way to OSHA certification.

The collection as a whole pays tribute to contemporary workwear, reinventing staples with modern, sleek tailoring. Jackets are slightly oversized, denim is in a bootcut, tote bags are created for utility and function, “Level” heels are made in functional kitten height, while the color palette across the collection is rooted in shades of ruby, green, black and white for everyday wear.

Flourished designs are interspersed throughout for Heron Preston flair, including a ruffled shirt dress made of satin, teddy tops and coats, voluminous puffers and mid-calf boots. Standout pieces range from a crimson maxi-dress with shades of red to wide-legged black trousers to an abstract-printed long sleeve with ambiguous splotches of black, muted orange and yellow—function with finesse, for the modern worker.
