Democracy. It’s what this country is all about, and nothing shows off the spirit of democracy quite like an entertainment awards show. Jokes aside, the People’s Choice Awards, presented by E!, are a unique opportunity to credit the blockbusting fan-favorites of the past year without stuffy elitism. This year, Pink won the People’s Champion Award for her longtime commitment to self-acceptance and empowerment, while rule-breaker Gwen Stefani took home the Fashion Icon Award. Jennifer Aniston, meanwhile, won the People’s Icon of 2018 and accepted the tribute with a tear-worthy speech. The People’s Choice Awards are where populism shines, and where else could we giveĀ Avengers: Endgame the recognition it deserves?
That being said, only a few celebrities this year stood out from the crowd on the red carpet. Tonight’s show featured an interesting reversal from the awards show stereotype in that the menswear nearly overshadowed the relatively demure gowns and dresses. Jeremy Scott, Bretman Rock, and T-Pain all brought their own wild spins to the traditional suit-and-tie. Stefani, never one to live down the title of Fashion Icon, stepped out in a bombastic white grown and billowing train. And let’s not forget Zendaya, who consistently slays every fashion moment handed to her.
Here are the best red carpet looks from this year:
