Holly Humberstone Releases Nostalgic Single ‘Sleep Tight’
The slow-burning single was co-written with The 1975’s Matty Healy.
British singer-songwriter Holly Humberstone has had quite the year. The 22-year-old artist has amassed an impressive 260 million streams, performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and The Late Late Show with James Cordon, and is currently on tour with Olivia Rodrigo. Now, Humberstone continues to make waves with the release of ‘Sleep Tight,’ a dynamic, personal track co-written with The 1975’s Matty Healy.
“It’s awkward trying to navigate catching feelings for a friend, as they are often feelings we might have been suppressing for some time,” Humberstone explained in a statement released to V. “When they float to the surface, you have to weigh up the risks of getting hurt and potentially losing them in your life. I wrote ‘Sleep Tight’ about the uncertainty of friendships evolving into something more.”
First working together on Humberstone’s ‘Please Don’t Leave Just Yet,’ the duo looked inward for ‘Sleep Tight.’ Following a relationship stuck between friendship and romance, the blistering single shows the British songstress at her best: anthemic production, flowing melodies, and lyrics that are sure to tug at the heartstrings. “The first summer out of lockdown was pretty crazy for my friends and I because we finally had our freedom back and acted like we had nothing to lose,” Humberstone said. “This song takes me back to that time of what felt like no consequences and impending heartbreak.”
A 2000s-inspired music video sees the rising star navigate the complicated relationship while riding through a sleepy suburban neighborhood in the back of a minivan—with plush fur seat covers plucked from the early aughts, of course. Listen to Holly Humberstone’s new single ‘Sleep Tight,’ below.
