Honor The Gift Launches “District” Collection
The Russell Westbrook designed collection was inspired by the Unified School Districts in Los Angeles.
Lakers star Russell Westbrook’s clothing company, Honor the Gift, announced their latest collection, which was inspired by the public schools of Los Angeles.
For the Fall 2022 “District” collection, Westbrook took inspiration from the Unified School Districts in L.A. District builds upon Westbrook’s first two collections, Private & Public, to revive and define his ideation of the classic inner city student.
“Honor The Gift combines the grit of public school with the wealth of private school aesthetics,” the brand said in a statement. That is evident in the collection’s seven collegiate-inspired color palettes (from tan, to maroon, to mustard, to olive), along with the inclusion of a HTG crest, designed to represent overcoming adversity.
“In all walks of life, everyone walks through fire and overcoming the obstacles is a personal journey,” the statement continued. “Representing pride and respect for the harsh environments that challenge these experiences, this collection celebrates the struggle and strife of being from the Inner City.”
Key pieces within the collection include varsity jackets, cable knits, and the inclusion of vegan leather, all designed to highlight the juxtaposition of private vs. public school. This juxtaposition creates a powerful visual narrative, and lends itself to Westbrook’s core belief: “Private or Public are still the same. They are both made up of the same elements.”
The “District” collection will be available online on Aug. 15.
