Let's get down to cannabis-ness.

Let's get down to cannabis-ness.

Hot on the heels of Canada's legalization of recreational marijuana, there's never been a better time to openly embrace all the cannabis plant has to offer. Enter the CBD beauty phenomenon, full of cosmetics brands proclaiming the supposed benefits of the cannabidiol compound, from reducing inflammation to preventing acne without any of the psychological effects associated with its better-known cousin, THC.

Los Angeles-based Hora Skin Care, which launched earlier this year with the goal of incorporating CBD into a repertoire of effective skincare products, is one such company. After a month of using their complete line, I can comfortably attest to the wonders of a CBD-based beauty routine.

Hora's current offerings include the Super Serum, an everyday cream packed with known skincare rockstars like vitamin C and rosehip oil in addition to CBD. Next comes the Exfoliating Overnight Mask, whose higher concentration of CBD and more pungent ingredients like salicylic acid make it good for use up to four times a week. Finally, Hora wouldn't be a California beauty brand if they didn't market facial rollers, which they sell in jade, rose quartz, and clear quartz (I requested they send me one in jade, because duh). Most days, I apply the Super Serum with my Hora-branded roller before bed and when I wake up, directly after cleansing with my standard Cetaphil wash. Both the Serum and Mask are dye- and fragrance-free, and neither leaves a sticky residue after I use the roller atop my product-covered pores.

After just two weeks of implementing my Hora regime, I was blown away. I have a horrible habit of picking at my skin before bed that often used to leave me covered in raised bumps red spots. When I started using Hora, I saw almost all evidence of my periodic zit-popping rampages vanish after a night spent slathered in Super Serum. Not only that, but the little whiteheads that once dotted the majority of my face, which is 20 years old and thus subject to hormonal changes, grew so small that I soon forgot about them entirely. Getting a college-aged girl to overlook about her facial impurities in 2018 is no small feat; we have to at least hand it to Hora for that much.

Sure, it's possible that the reasons for my success with Hora have nothing to do with cannabidiol — maybe it's the marine collagen in the Serum, the evening primrose in the Mask, or the vitamin A in both that's making me glow. To be honest, I couldn't care less. These products work, and they just so happen to be packed with hundreds of grams of CBD.
