How to Support Black Creatives and Entrepreneurs Through Airbnb

All you have to do is download Zoom.

The Black Lives Matter movement is making significant progress on a global scale, and there’s no end in sight. Protests and petitions are essential to make collective demands for change but it’s also important to contribute monetary support to the Black community in the long run.

Recently, consumers are holding companies accountable, demanding transparency in hopes of more diversity all throughout. For instance, Sephora joined Aurora James’ 15 Percent Pledge, which asks major retailers to commit at least 15% of their shelves to Black-owned businesses.

Airbnb is no exception from this mission, and that’s why Airbnb launched Project Lighthouse, an initiative to uncover, measure, and overcome discrimination when booking or hosting on their site. Airbnb says, “Since 2016, we’ve removed 1.3M people from Airbnb for declining to treat others without judgment or bias. But discrimination still happens, so we’re introducing some new ways to fight it.”

Aside from Project Lighthouse, Airbnb is finding other ways to support their hosts and give their audience a chance to discover new hobbies through Online Experiences, which are unique activities led by hosts around the world. Airbnb now offers workshops like meditation, cooking, and countless others. Although there won’t be any vacations this summer, Airbnb guarantees the opportunity to pick up a new skill by offering a meaningful experience with a variety of talented Black creatives and entrepreneurs.

All you have to do is visit Airbnb’s Online Experience page and select among their top-rated hosts. Oh, and you’ll need to download Zoom.
