Celebrating growth and evolution, Acne Studios presented its women’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection in Paris on March 1st rooted in nature. Transporting us through a fantasy forest, models emerged from the darkness walking to the sound of electronic composer Sarahsson.

The Swedish-based house took inspiration from their hometown’s long, dark winters by instigating both somber and magical effects through the pieces presented. From evening wear to outerwear, this collection encompasses the contrast between urban life and nature and the beauty that can be found in darkness.

Acne is known for its elevated wardrobe staples from pants to blazers to dresses and this collection reimagined just that. Multiple coats were presented in this collection from wool trench coats to leather biker jackets. These were complemented by bottoms including pencil skirts and leather pants. Between skin-tight collaged and draped-style dresses to boxy oversized shapes and everything in between, this collection pursued it all.

In showcasing this collection’s inspiration by nature, Acne’s creative director, Johnny Johansson, emphasized attention to detail. Materials appeared wrinkled, shredded and distressed as well as choosing earthy tones correlating to dirt and rain. The color palette of the collection focused on dark green and brown mimicking the colors of decaying leaves and tree trunks.

In a statement, Johansson discusses the show’s set design choices in relation to the collection saying “…I love how forests are always changing, growing, transforming, and the clothes are very crafty.”

Accessories, footwear, and bags were key components of the show and this collection. Jewelry made from scrap metal objects such as bottle cans, crochet flower sandals and chunky pumps, and multi-pocket bags inspired by vintage camera bags made an appearance. Johansson revisited the brand’s Spring/Sumer 2023 90s-style Platt Shoulder Bag in a patchwork of painted leather to match the theme of the collection.
